Philosophy
It is always a bit uncomfortable setting out rules and regulations! But the main purpose of the ones that follow are so that we can focus on the business of learning and exploring new and interesting stuff without having to worry about the formal details of payment and expectations on attendance. We want to focus on learning. So, let's get this part out of the way.
Payment and Scheduling
» To be placed on my schedule, sessions must be pre-paid.
» Full charge will be made for scheduled sessions that are missed.
» No refunds will be made for unused sessions that are paid for in the reduced-rate 10-class package.
» If you sign up for a set of sessions and continue pre-payment for additional sessions, your spot on my schedule will be maintained.
» If you have participated in a set of sessions and then take a break from the weekly schedule, I will put you back on my schedule space-permitting when you restart.
Class Attendance
» I stronngly recommend that students have two sessions per week. This is the best way to keep the processes both of learning Mathematica and working on research projects moving along.
» Any cancellations of a class must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled time or the class fee will be charged as planned.
» In the case of illness or emergency I will use my discretion on charging.
» If a student is more than 10 minutes late for a class's scheduled start time, the class will be closed and the session will be charged.
Engagement
The most important thing is for the student to be engaged and curious: to ask "what ifs" and to dive in and work on learning Mathematica and exploring the research ideas that we come up with. Dive in, get confused, be tenacious about resolving those confusions, and have an explorer's passion for setting out towards new things.
